Why We Chose a Different Approach to Fragrance
As a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 20 years of clinical experience, I have seen firsthand how frequently the skin can react to the products we use every day.
Skin irritation, contact dermatitis, eczema, sensitivity, dryness, and other reactions can be frustrating reminders that what we put on our bodies matters.
That experience has influenced the way I formulate products for Flame Elegance.
I don't believe consumers should have to choose between luxury and being more intentional about the ingredients they use.
So we're creating another option.
What You Should Know About Fragrance and FDA Regulation.
There is an important distinction that many consumers don't realize.
Perfume is regulated as a cosmetic in the United States, but cosmetic products and most cosmetic ingredients DO NOT REQUIRE FDA approval before they are placed on the market. Companies are responsible for ensuring their cosmetic products are safe and properly labeled.
There is another important consideration when it comes to fragrance.
Under US cosmetic labeling rules, fragrance ingredients may generally be listed on a retail cosmetic label simply as "Fragrance." Because fragrance formulas can contain complex mixtures of ingredients, consumers may not alway see every individual component of a fragrance blend listed separately.
That is one reason reading labels and understanding the formulation of the products you choose matters.
For those of us who want to be more intentional about the products we use, there is value in having choices.
